John Boyd

John Boyd has been active against the EEC/EC/EU since the 1960s and has written countless feature articles about the impact of Britain's membership in the Common Market through to the EU.

He has also authored and co-authored several books and pamphlets exposing the nature and implications of the EU in respect to democracy, social protection and welfare state, and the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the military implications of the thrust for a European Army and the 'Third World'.

John made a one man protest outside Northolt Airport (London), when Prime Minister Edward Heath went to sign the Rome Treaty in 1973. He was Secretary of the very active Get Britain Out Campaign in the London Borough of Ealing in the 1975 Referendum and returning officer for the No! campaign.

He joined the predecessor to the Campaign for an Independent Britain (CIB), the British Anti-Common Market Campaign, very soon after it was formed in 1975. He has been either an elected member or delegated member of the CIB national committee for two decades.

He was a founding member of the Campaign against Euro-Federalism (CAEF) in 1991 and has been the Secretary of CAEF ever since and Editor of the Democrat. CAEF is oriented towards the labour and trade union movement, a particularly difficult issue on which to campaign in Britain.

He has represented Britain at the events of the European Alliance of EU-sceptic organisations and movements (TEAM). He was a Board member of TEAM and Co-ordinator (Chairman) of TEAM from 2003-2006 for the maximum three year term. He has chaired several key events associated with TEAM including the counter EU conference in Brussels in 2004 when agreement on the Constitution collapsed and co-chaired the rally in London in 2005.

He has spoken at countless meetings around Britain and across the EU and also in Norway and Switzerland.

John considers the labour and trade union movement in all Member States to be crucial to the EU-critical movement which includes the implications of the Services Directive, Healthcare Directive and revived EU Treaty for a Constitution.
