Nataša Goršek Mencin

Upon graduating at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television at the University of Ljubljana Nataša Goršek Mencin first worked as Editor/Stage Manager for TV Slovenia. After eight years at TV Slovenia and more than thirty realised scripts she directed the film "Varuh meje" (The Protector of the Border).

Later Mencin held the position of Under Secretary in the Directorate for the Media at the Slovenian Ministry of Culture. She was responsible for the audovisual field which involved the preparation, harmonisation and implementation of the Slovenian legislation on the media and audiovisual culture with the acquis communautaire. During her five years at the Ministry of Culture she was also a Member of the Supervisory Committee of the Slovenian Film Fund, the Council of the Slovenian Cinematheque and Viba Film, as well as Member of the European Commission's Committee for Programme Media for the Directive on Television Without Frontiers and the Under Committee for Telecommunications which dealt with issues concerning TV broadcasting.

Mencin then spent five years working for the Council of Europe as Deputy Representative in the European fund Eurimages and as an expert in the Under Committee for Public Television.

In February 2005 she successfully completed the three year governmental training programme on EU issues at the Academy of Administration of the Slovenian Ministry of Public Administration in cooperation with the Centre for European Studies in Strasbourg and the European Institute of Public Administration in Maastricht. In 2002 she undertook advanced study courses in law and economics at the University San Pablo CEU and the Centre for Economic Studies in Madrid.

On December 1st 2005 she began working for the European Parliament and became Head of the European Parliament's Information Office in Slovenia. The European Parliament holds such offices in all Member States and usually the heads of these offices, which are employed by the European Parliament, are nationals of the country the office is situated in.
